New Job=Tired

I've been working at my new job as a public health nurse now for a few weeks and it's been pretty slow. We've been going to trainings, reading materials, and shadowing other nurses on public health visits. This week however, my supervisor has ramped it up with more home visits with other program nurses and then assigning us our own caseload. All of a sudden I had seven cases! It felt very overwhelming today. I don't know what it was, riding with another nurse driving to a couple of home visits or just thinking but by 3 PM I was ready to take a nap and sleep the rest of the night. I got a lot of cases that required immediate action. One of my new cases involves going to a home visit tomorrow with the social workers, both of whom I've never met. The other case involves going to the forensic appointment with the patient to meet the child abuse expert physician. I had to send over all of the medical records to the physician by Friday, but I just got the assignment today! I had to do 3 HIPAA trainings before getting cases. I have ALOT of training coming up in the next couple of months and I am preparing for being brain overload. I guess it makes up for not being in school.

About school, I took a leave of absence because 1. I got a full-time job. 2. I want to switch specialties 3. My husband quit his job 4. This job was a dream job since 2009. So I'm working on my application due February 1, 2013.

So since I'm not in school, I've signed up for a bunch of stuff. Aside from my work training that only happens on weekdays, I've signed up for an all-expense paid trip to Miami next month from my nursing association for leadership training since I'm the chapter president of my area. I've also signed up for two weekends of Certified Diabetes Educator training this month. For my birthday weekend I'll be in New York City visiting my cousin K for an American Diabetes Association Postgraduate Conference.

As for this weekend, I'll be hosting a clothing swap with all my girlfriends. It'll be like shopping but without paying for anything! I did this last year and had So.Much.Fun! My husband's family is also coming over for a few days, so it'll be a little tricky to make sure everything is cleaned up for my event on Saturday afternoon.
